Its headwaters are in central and eastern Sri Lanka
flowing through lush vegetation it turns eastwards near Kandy and then
northwards into the lowlands flowing past Polonnaruwa to join the sea at 7
miles south of Trincomalee at Koddiyar Bay. It is the island’s longest river
335 km in length. The boat-ride will take you on the lake formed by the
Polgolla Dam, which send the water through underground tunnels into the dry
arid north for irrigation projects. Fishing can be done while enjoying this
ride.
