Explore the Island from Villa Rosa

Travelling in Sri Lanka is easy, because there is a network of roads connecting all principal towns and places of interest. Traffic circulation is on the left in Sri Lanka.

We would not recommend to hire a self-driven car – even if it is possible without difficulties. But the behaviour in traffic is quite different from other countries. The average travelling speed is only between 30 and 40 km per hours because most of the roads force you to go with the slowest participant. Overtaking is stress full and sometimes dangerous. So for 100 km of road distance you will need between 3 and 3 ½ hrs travelling time.

Drivers are not the expensive part in a travelling package. We will make sure that you will be chauffeured by an experienced and pleasant chauffeur cum guide.

For the short discovery trips around Kandy, we recommend to go by trishaw. It is fun and you are much closer to the events around you.

To go upcountry into the mountains we would recommend to take the train one way and to come back the other by bus – or to be picked up by car. You can also go both ways by car – but do not miss the train trip !!

To the cultural triangle north of Kandy you can go by bus or easier by car, because not all places of interest are located along the main bus route.

We would recommend, that you use Villa Rosa as a discovery base and from here you use different modes of transport. It is possible to rent a car for 2 or 3 days for you or for the whole period of your stay . A car with a driver for 10 to 12 days incl. all kilometres would cost you about 300 to 400 US $.

Trishaws and most of the taxis have no meters, so you have to agree on a price before you start any trip.
